Sustainability
Our compass: A more enjoyable and sustainable boating life – with the smallest possible footprint on the sea and archipelago.
We focus on three things: extending the lifespan of what you already own, minimizing waste and emissions through smart logistics and packaging, and clear adherence to EU and Swedish regulations for chemicals, batteries, and electrical products.
1) Assortment & Product Selection
- Repair before repurchase. As a spare parts-focused store, we help you repair and upgrade what you already have – in line with the EU's new Right to Repair directive which promotes repairs both within and after the statutory warranty period. The directive applies in the EU from July 30, 2024 and must be implemented nationally by July 31, 2026. European Commission
- Eco-labeled boat and cleaning products. Where available, we highlight products that meet Nordic Swan Ecolabel criteria (e.g., boat/vehicle care and all-purpose cleaners) – with requirements for low ecotoxicity, good biodegradability, and smart packaging. SvanemerketSvanen
- Boat bottom – right paint or paint-free. We follow the regulations of the Swedish Chemicals Agency and the Swedish Transport Agency: biocide paints may only be sold/used where approved, and we provide clear information based on home port/region. We also highlight biocide-free alternatives and mechanical cleaning/brush washing that reduce emissions to the water. kemi.seTransportstyrelsen+1
2) Chemicals & Safe Use
- CLP labeling and safety information. Chemical products we sell comply with the CLP Regulation (classification, labeling, and packaging). Professional and reseller customers receive safety data sheets according to REACH; private customers receive clear warnings and instructions for use. kemi.se+1
- REACH – our role as a distributor. As a retailer in the EEA, we ensure the flow of information up and down the supply chain (e.g., concerning hazardous substances/SVHC) in accordance with ECHA's guidance for distributors. European Chemicals Agency+1
3) Batteries, Electrical Products & Producer Responsibility
- EU's new battery regulations. Battery Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 replaces the older battery directive and tightens requirements throughout the life cycle (design, traceability, collection, material recycling). Requirements for extended producer responsibility and registration will gradually apply – central EPR requirements begin to apply from August 18, 2025. EUR-LexIntertek
- Collection and recycling in Sweden. For electrical equipment and batteries, we collaborate with the Swedish ElKretsen – a nationwide system that helps producers fulfill their responsibility and makes recycling easy for customers. El-Kretsen
4) Packaging & Waste
- Smaller and better packaging. We minimize air in boxes, reuse cardboard where possible, and choose paper/tape with FSC-certified fiber content where practically possible. se.fsc.org
- Swedish producer responsibility (packaging). According to Ordinance (2022:1274), producers must be affiliated with a producer responsibility organization (PRO). Municipalities are responsible for collecting from households from January 1, 2024, and producers reimburse the municipalities' costs. Swedish Environmental Protection Agency+1NPA
5) Deliveries with Lower Impact
- Fossil-free as a customer choice – Schenker. At checkout, we display fossil-free delivery according to the Swedish Retail Federation's industry agreement – a standard that clarifies what "fossil-free" means across all e-commerce.
- Schenker with clear climate goals. We collaborate with Schenker, which has established climate goals and a clear plan for fossil-free operations in line with the industry's common transition.
- Fewer packages, same order. We offer combined delivery where possible – fewer shipments result in lower emissions per order (in line with industry practice and the Nordic Swan Ecolabel's criteria work for e-commerce logistics).
6) Returns, Reuse & Handling
- Design for fewer returns. Size/fit guides, better images, and customer support reduce unnecessary returns.
- Reuse of returned goods. Functional returned goods are sold as "Opened packaging", go to outlet, or are donated – before recycling.
- Hazardous waste. We guide customers to correct disposal of e.g. oils, solvents, batteries, and electronics via municipal recycling centers or ElKretsen's channels. For emergency flares/pyrotechnics, local instructions apply: in many municipalities, they are handled as explosive waste via the Police, while some specify retailers/recycling centers – follow your municipality's instructions. 7) Boating without Leaks & Emissions
- Toilet waste: It is forbidden to empty boat toilets into the sea. Harbors must be able to receive the waste that pleasure boats need to dispose of (toilet, hazardous waste, etc.) according to the Swedish Transport Agency's regulations. miva.seTransportstyrelsen
- Brush washing and wash-down pad: We provide information on where you can wash your boat bottom using a brush wash or a wash-down pad with purification – an effective alternative to painting in many waters. BåtmiljöTransportstyrelsen
8) Measurement, Goals & Reporting
- We measure according to the GHG Protocol. Ohooj.se will annually map emissions in Scope 1, 2, and 3 and report the most important sources (e.g., transport, packaging, manufacturing of goods). GHG Protocol+1
- We set science-based targets. We follow SBTi's standards/tools (the SME pathway where appropriate) and update targets at least every five years according to SBTi's guidance. Science Based Targets Initiative+1docs.sbtiservices.com
9) Fair and Accurate Sustainability Communication
- No vague claims. We avoid generic expressions such as "green", "climate neutral", or "eco-friendly" without verifiable grounds – in accordance with the Swedish Consumer Agency's guidance and EU's Directive (EU) 2024/825 on empowering consumers for the green transition through better protection against unfair practices and better information. KonsumentverketEUR-Lex
- Underway in the EU (for transparency): ESPR (Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation) tightens requirements for sustainable products and enables Digital Product Passports for more categories in the future. We monitor developments and adapt product information according to applicable delegated acts. EUR-Lex
10) Supplier Requirements
- Suppliers/brands commit to REACH/CLP compliance, correct classification/labeling, and sharing necessary documentation (e.g., safety data sheets for professional customers). We prioritize actors who can demonstrate traceability, minimize hazardous substances, and comply with upcoming EU requirements (e.g., battery and ecodesign regulations). kemi.seEuropean Chemicals Agency
